Dear Santa,

If you can’t give me a steady career for 2010, at least give the new The Little Prince Deluxe Pop-up Book. We took product shots last week and I saw this book and wanted to steal it for myself. I’ve been as good as I could and I didn’t get banned anywhere this year and I didn’t give anybody the finger.

Love, Robx

So I finished reading two books (in 3 days)  last week. They were both great, and somehow I can relate to Charlie’s character in which every book he reads becomes his favorite. So far, the books that I’ve read were awesome in their own way.

Since then I’ve bought 3 more books: Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris, The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, and Every Soul A Star by Wendy Mass.

ETA: I bought 3 more books today: Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith (thanks to Aia!), A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket, and Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan.

Sooo many books to read.

So… despite efforts to save the few remaining money I have left, I couldn’t resist buying more books. Dang it!

Went to Fully Booked High Street yesterday and got the first book of the Percy Jackson & The Olympian series, The Lighting Thief. Everytime I go to the bookstore, my eyes keep landing on The Last Olympian so I decided to head over to Amazon to read some customer reviews. There I found out that it’s actually the last book of a series by Rick Riordan. The plot seemed interesting since I am a big Greek mythology fan when I was a kid and this book has a modern twist on that.

Big Mouth and Ugly Girl was another one of those books I kept seeing. There wasn’t much customer reviews but I told myself I would go and read it some day. Lo and behold I saw a hard cover edition on the rack on its own and my hands couldn’t let go of its grasp.

Finally, on my way home. I stopped by National Bookstore to take a quick glance at some books. When I was convinced that there are no other books out there to buy, I went and left. On my way out, I took a quick glance at the new arrivals and best-sellers section and my stare somehow went to this particular book with an interesting cover. The title read The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I’ve been looking for it since it was suggested by my friend, Deus (and I trust his taste for good books… especially for coming of age titles).

So… now I’m broke.

books

Just finished reading two books this week! I love them both.

The Absolutely Diary of a Part-time Indian is a story about an Indian boy (Arnold Spirit) who struggles to get out of the reservation to make a better life for himself. He was considered a traitor to the tribe for transferring to an all-white school where the only other Indian was the school mascot. The book is funny and sad. It’s amazing how the author was able to inject humor into the tragedies that happened in the main character’s life.

Smiles To Go is another diary type book by Jerry Spinelli. The format is similar to Love, Stargirl. It’s about this high school freshman, Will Tuppence, and his fascination about science. According to him, everything changed the moment the first proton ceased to exist. Spinelli is slowly becoming one of my favorite authors and I might just have to buy all of his books.

Next on the list: The List by Tara Ison and reread The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

I am not a great reviewer. Usually, none of the best words to describe anything in particular will escape from my mouth, save for the usual one-liners that have been said repeatedly by other people.

I started reading a book by Jerry Spinelli a few hours after I got home, probably around 9:45 PM. I just finished reading the book at 2:40 AM and I just feel compelled to write something about it. The only other book I finished in one seating was The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, and for reasons similar to that book, it was hard for me to put down Stargirl despite the drowsiness and the increasing hunger I felt each hour.

Repeating what other reviewers have said, the book is “a magical and heartbreaking tale” and certainly did not disappoint. It is a very beautiful read, and the only honest reaction/review I can give is if you see my facial expression. As cliche as it sounds, I can’t put it into words.

I’m off to read Love, Stargirl now. =)

books

As mentioned in my previous post, it seems that I have forgotten the old me due to the hustle and bustle ofmy college days and, now, the fast-paced world of the corporate jungle. I believe that if there’s a broken part of your life, you are the only one who can fix it. And so I did.

It’s a rough start, but I started reading books again. I remembered exactly that feeling that I used to have whenflipping through pages and hanging on every word beforejumping to the next. My friend, Aia, lent me Mitch Albom’s The Five People You Meet In Heaven, and finished it in a day. Well it is a short read, anyways. Will do a reaction piece in the coming days every time I read a book.

Last night, she asked me to come with her to Powerbooks because she’s checking some book prices. I ended up buying 4 more books–graphic novels.

The Homecoming by Ray Bradbury and illustrated by Dave McKean! Coraline by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Craig Russel, Postcards: True Stories That Never Happened, and Pirates Don’t Change Diapers by David Shannon!

When I finish all those books, I’m gonna buy and re-read The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Blankets by Craig Thompson, and Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Sallinger. Then I’ll buy and read Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, How I Paid For College by Marc Acito, Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, and American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang. All of which I plan to read in a month. Booya!

Any more recommendations?
